A HydraFacial is one of the most powerful, non-invasive skin resurfacing treatments available today. It combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and antioxidant protection that removes dead skin cells and impurities while simultaneously delivering moisturizing serums into the skin. But just like any other cosmetic treatment, HydraFacials come with a set of best practices you should commit to during your aftercare for optimal results.
Since your skin has just undergone a deep HydraFacial cleanse, it will be sensitive to sun exposure. In other words, it’s best to not get your tan on after treatment. If your day-to-day activities put you in the sunlight, it’s best to wear SPF 30+ during this time-frame to play it safe.
While staying out of the sun is recommended, it’s also wise to stay away from any form of excessive heat for 48 hours after your HydraFacial. This even includes your daily cardio at the gym. Since your skin has already been exfoliated, any excess heat or anything that will cause you to sweat will irritate your skin. This includes exercise, hot showers, and saunas. If you have to run, sweat, and get your miles in, we recommend doing so before your treatment, and then taking a couple of days off.
In the spirit of protecting your sensitive skin, it’s a good idea to pump the breaks on waxing or use depilatories for 72 hours. In fact, anything with exfoliating properties should be considered off-limits through the duration of your HydraFacial aftercare. Waxing exfoliates the skin and overdoing it might leave you with a pale look instead of a glowing radiance.
It’s important to avoid makeup after your HydraFacial for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that scrubbing your face is not recommended after your treatment because it could be potentially abrasive. Secondly, some compounds have alcohol in them which will irritate your newly sensitive skin. You only need to abstain from makeup for a short period of time, and the payoff for this sacrifice is glowing radiant skin.
Whenever in doubt, always consult your provider on when you should resume your regular skin care regimen. While we value the precision of our procedures, everybody’s skin is different, and there are always variables that need to be considered. A phone call never hurts anyone, and we’re always glad to be of assistance! If you’re three days out and still feel a little tender, you might want a second opinion on whether or not you still need the sunscreen, or to stay out of direct sunlight completely!
If you follow these best practices, as well as any additional instructions from your professional, you’ll be well on your way to a glowing complexion. While it might seem like a bummer to throw off your routine for a few days, the payoff will be worth it! Think of it as an opportunity to relax. Catch up on your favorite show or book, go to a movie, or just enjoy a night in! Your HydraFacial results are only as good as your aftercare, and we’re in your corner every step of the way.
