What is IPL Photofacial?

IPL Photofacial is a laser treatment that helps to diminish the appearance of redness, light scars, broken capillaries, rosacea and hyper pigmentation (sun spots) of your facial skin. This treatment will improve the overall look and feel of your skin and also results in improved tone and texture. Get the silky, shiny glow you’re after to enhance your youthful appearance.

How does Photofacial work?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. The device uses a non-ablative laser to deliver high-intensity pulses of light. It is carefully calibrated to detect specific skin pigments and then penetrates deep into your skin to correct the problem at its source.

While this treatment is most commonly used on the face; your hands, neck and chest can also be treated with IPL Photofacial – the most common areas where sun-damage is most apparent.

Are IPL Photofacial Treatments Painful?
Zero to mild pain and discomfort is experienced during the treatment. A topical numbing agent may also be used if you’d like. The sensation you will experience is best described as rubber bands snapping lightly against your skin or slight pinching as is common with the vast majority of laser treatments. With each small snap you feel you know the IPL Photofacial has delivered correction to the area.

How long is a Treatment Session?
A typical IPL Photofacial treatment session lasts 20 minutes from start to finish. This will vary from person to person and will also depend upon the area being treated and the extent of the correction required.

Will I need to repeat the treatment?
Multiple treatments are typically required (3 – 6) but it’s worth it as the improvements continue to manifest in the weeks following the procedure. Treatments are spaced 4 – 8 weeks a part.

Is there Downtime after a Treatment?
Sometimes called a lunchtime procedure, you can expect little to no recovery time after your treatment. Immediately after an IPL Photofacial treatment you will be fully able to resume your normal activities.

Are there Side Effects with IPL Photofacial Treatments?
The most common side effect post treatment is redness at the treatment site. It resolves quickly but can also be covered by foundation, powder or concealer if you desire. Some people experience mild swelling at the treatment site which calms after just a couple of hours.

Is the IPL Photofacial treatment right for me?
If you are currently taking Accutane you do not qualify for this treatment, you must wait until you have been off Accutane for 6 months.
