What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is an exfoliating procedure of the outer skin layer. It removes fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) leaving a smoother, brighter, and more youthful appearance.

Because dermaplaning is a quick procedure with few to no adverse effects, it has quickly gained popularity among cosmetic medical providers across the country.

Using a scalpel and a delicate touch, our certified aestheticians simply abrade the surface of the skin using light feathering strokes.

How does Dermaplaning work?

This method of exfoliation gently scrapes off the top layer of dulling skin cells and excess vellus hair in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.

This layer of dead skin and excess hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing them gives you healthier, brighter-looking skin.

Dermaplane Facts

What can I expect to experience from a Dermaplane Treatment?
Dermaplaning is a painless procedure and can be compared to the sensation of shaving.

First, one of our licensed aestheticians will cleanse and thoroughly dry your skin. Next, she’ll pull an area of your skin taut and with short, swift strokes scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz with a sterile blade.

After completing this process, your aesthetician will gently apply a hydrating, moisturizing lotion followed by SPF.

A typical service should take around 30 minutes.

Who is it for?
Dermaplaning is especially effective on those with dry or rough skin texture and helps to minimize superficial acne scarring or uneven skin tone. It is also beneficial for mature skin, which tends to have a buildup of dead cells as cellular turnover slows down with age.

It is safe for pregnant or lactating clients who cannot have chemical peels?
Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active cystic acne. If you have deep cystic acne, wait until breakouts are clear before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment.

Are there immediate side effects?
There are little to no side effects and zero downtime. After the treatment, your skin will be sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.

Does the hair grow back heavier or darker?
Some patients have expressed concern that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after dermaplaning. This is not the case. Superficial vellus hair (peach fuzz) will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.

How should I prepare before receiving this Treatment?
You need to arrive with a makeup-free face. One of our licensed estheticians will cleanse your face for you before the treatment begins.

How often should I receive this Treatment?
Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its full rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment.

What are the anticipated results?
You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. All of your peach fuzz will be gone, which is why first-timers say their skin has never felt so soft before.

Along with an instant improvement in skin texture and tone, the long-term effects are increased cell turnover, fewer wrinkles and dark spots, and the reduction of acne scarring.

After dermaplaning, skin care products and treatments perform much more efficiently since they can penetrate the skin more easily. Your makeup goes on smoother as well. It’s also the perfect procedure to begin stacking other treatments, like our PCA Face Peel, Microneedling, and Microdermabrasion.
